You Can’t Touch This

Hey HLX Fam, it’s yo boy “Ron the Real Deal” back at you. Let’s dive right in! I have a big issue with not being able to have access to the celebrities I spend my hard earn money on.  I am realist and I know they have other obligation that will not permit them to be at my every beck and call. I love me some India Arie and Musiq Soulchild but I know I cannot call them up and say what’s up.  It would be nice if I had access to the stars I have come to admire over the years for their art. I remember a scene in the movie Juwanna Mann, were actor Miguel A Nunez character Jamal would sign his fans autograph request with a rubber stamp. After his expulsion from the league, he is back home and was ask to sign a fans autograph. Jamal ask the fan if she has an ink pen. He was quickly reminded about the stamp used when he was on top. At this moment, Jamal realized he had been disassociated from his fan base and how he allowed the spot light to blind him from what was real.

Back in the day, we had local Pop Dance groups who would provide entertainment at our neighborhood block parties, school talent shows and other community events. These were young people who lived around the corner but was talented as all get out. They were there when we couldn’t get the Fat Boys to show up or Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick. Sure, we were not able to pay them money but the notoriety they received around the neighborhood was good enough for them. It was a real honor to walk around the school like rock stars and have all the girls drooling over you. I happen to be one of those local entertainers and was able to get a girl friend or two from a local talent show. It felt good to have access to the people who entertained us on a regular basis. We were inspired to work harder on our craft by the best dancers and singers in our neighborhood.

Real talk! We can’t get Beyoncé, Jayz or Kendrick Lamar on the phone at any time or see them riding through the neighborhood. We need to restore our admiration for our local artist who just want to know they are appreciated for the hard work they put in to make sure we have consistent affordable entertainment. For this reason HLX is committed to providing a media outlet were local artist’s can have their talents showcased. It makes our young people feel good about where they live to know they have access to some of the best entertainers on the rise. We need to make sure we are supporting our local artist before they go global. Let’s not let local VA. artist Corey El have to get out  his rubber stamp autograph signer. There is an awesome singing team on the rise in the VA. called “The Polk Duo” then there is Singer/Songwriter “Unix” making his mark and they are all HLX online magazine featured local artist. I am glad to know I have local artists who can be touched. These artists definitely gets a “Yes Sirrrrrr” from yo boy “Ron the Real Deal”
