Who is Chitta?

If you are unfamiliar Chitta he is a low key artist from Virginia whom as his song says, “does this in his free time”. There wasn’t much background information to be found on him musically but his music is available for streaming on Apple & Spotify.
Chitta uses the track “Free Time” to give you a personal glimpse into who he is. From the track we learned that his name is Caleb but his brothers call him “Hitman” aka Hitta, which is where his rap persona comes from. He comes off as a conscience rapper which is further solidified by his chosen album art and lyrics throughout the EP.

Hot or Not?

His latest project is a 6 song EP entitled, Seclusion.
I have listened to the is EP a number of times searching for the perfect words to describe it. I ultimately landed on 2 words: reflective and personal. The opening track, “Abyss”, seems much like a song of reflection. He raps about his life experiences, thoughts and his unwavering work ethic. The track can come off slightly dark at moments though it is one of my favorites.

“Insomniac Cay” is another one of my favorites on the EP and not just because I can hear samples of Mary J Blige’s “Everything” in the background. On this track he details his late night thoughts and speaks on his struggles leaving college and the realities he faces on a regular basis in today’s society.

Final Verdict

Overall, I can honestly say I enjoyed Seclusion. The EP projected a very “diary like” vibe. Chitta gave listeners a look into his mind and pointed out the realities that many black and brown people face on a daily. He also used notable samples like “New Freezer” and “Everything”. Although I did like the project, I feel like I was left waiting for that one track that makes you go “oohhh that’s it”. I’ll be patiently waiting for him to drop new music but we may be waiting a while if he’s only working in his free time.

Growing up on the South Side of Chicago I was taught at a young age how to hustle, be independent and resilient. Since a mere child, I have always been one to guide my own destiny. After spending my high schools years at Jones College Prep, a magnet school in downtown Chicago, I went on to receive 8 full ride scholarships to various universities around the country, something I never would have expected. Ultimately, I made a wonderful decision in choosing my college home at the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University. Aside from mastering the art of the 'turn up', college taught me so much more. However, this didn’t just include the ins and outs of Computer Science. College gave me a window to various styles, personalities and looks. This is where my passion for media, radio, art and imagery flourished.
