Randomly coming across good music is probably one of the greatest things ever. Here at HLX, we have the pleasure of knowing local DJ, dancer, businesswomen, and entrepreneur Angelica ‘Boss Lady J’ Jones. She posted on her IG (@djbossladyj) that she was not only appearing in a music video, but she was also responsible for creating all of the choreography for it as well. Being that we support our people over here, we just had to check it out.
And with that, we were introduced to the lovely La Shana Latrice and her new track entitled “I Choose You”.
As a videographer myself, I probably pay more attention to a song’s visual than the average person. The throwback vibes were very real. The 80’s esthetic with its bright colors and skaters all around played together very well. Also, the 35mm filters on top tie everything together very nicely. In addition, there was also a scene at the James River that I really enjoyed. It’s possibly because I’m extremely biased about the city of Richmond, so any landmark that stands out that I can recognize is always great. the visuals were done by Areginalmedia. Great work by the team. We looking forward to seeing what else they may have in the works.
We certainly can’t forget about the choreography. A big shout out to Boss Lady J. She did a great job with find creating moves the flow well with the song as well as allowing for moments where La Shana Latrice can stand out and take the lead.
Now for the song it self. I LOVE IT! The video was played on repeat several times after the first listen. I am a big rap fan, but my R&B playlist is what gets me through my day at work at the 9-5. This first right in that pocket for me. A nice middle tempo that still allows for a nice two step
I’m certain most people would find the lyrics relatable. Who hasn’t just be caught up in their feelings this way? If I could find one thing to complain about, it would be the fact that the song is so short! To quote the songwriter herself, every time I listened, I “always wanted more.”
Overall, I am certainly glad to have stumbled across La Shana Latrice. Check out the video and let us know what you think? In the meantime, we’re going to start digging into the archives and seeing what other music from her we may have missed.
