King Marlo x Sip Marcel – March 12th The EP | Review

March 12th The Ep, from King Marlo & Sip Marcel, is something you don’t want to miss.  It’s a New Wave!

If you are unfamiliar with them, King Marlo & Sip Marcel are a rap duo with mass amounts of appeal. You may remember Sip Marcel from a previous article about Epic Fest. Well, he is back and joining forces with King Marlo to bring you something epic. The artists are dope alone, but together they are a force to be reckoned with. The originality, creative collective and unique sounds led them to form New Wave Legends.

March 12th the EP, their debut project, opens with a powerful intro entitled Mission Started.  The intro is a reminder that their time is coming and that the people are rooting and watching. The two come hard on every track. Overall, the EP has a very upbeat, hype vibe.  The mix of fast and slow tempos as well as the use of background sounds proves the high level of creativity and individuality that they have.  Some of my favorite tracks include Last Day, Level Up and Heard They.

Level Up is one of my favorite tracks on the EP for its unique sound. The choir-esque background vocals provided a different yet enjoyable sound.  The track is essentially about what you would expect, leveling up.  King Marlo and Sip Marcel rap about making a way through their music, the competition and battling the haters.  The message is simple – level up before you try to step to them.

Last Day has a great energy and vibe.  For me, it’s an anthem and a motivator.  The track makes you want to move.  It’s definitely a stand out on the EP that fits well with the intro’s message.  Forget all the shade and the haters – just get out and get it! Heard They is my ultimate favorite specifically for its chill and slowed down sound.  The song is aimed at all the people giving fake love and wanting to grab their coattails as their recognition and wallets grow.

I have very few criticisms for this EP. While I enjoyed it,  I would like to see a wider range of topics from these two together.  I’m interested in hearing their creative spin placed on a variety of different themes.

If you’re looking for new music or something to get you through your lack luster workday, this EP is for you. I would say this EP is a definite success.   Check out the EP below and let us know what you think!

In addition to dropping the EP, they recently dropped a video for one of the stand out tracks and my personal favorite, Heard They.  Watch the video below:

After spending my high schools years at Jones College Prep, a magnet school in downtown Chicago, I went on to receive 8 full ride scholarships to various universities around the country, something I never would have expected. Ultimately, I made a wonderful decision in choosing my college home at the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University. Aside from mastering the art of the 'turn up', college taught me so much more. However, this didn’t just include the ins and outs of Computer Science. College gave me a window to various styles, personalities and looks. This is where my passion for media, radio, art and imagery flourished.
