DatsJustice is one artist who has a permanent home with the HLX family.  You’ve probably read about his latest and greatest on the HLX Mag site or you could have heard him on one of the dope radio shows on HLX Radio.  Whichever way you were introduced to him, if you’re anything like us, you shouldn’t be sorry.  We’ve been waiting on him to drop new music and it’s finally here.  His latest EP, We Different, dropped at the beginning of April and can be found on all major streaming platforms.

Being that DatsJustice is an artist in our rotation who’s music I personally love, I knew this was something I had to listen to.  Before we get into the sound, we have to talk about the artwork.

The cover art which was created by @thisisjamieson, check him out when you have time. This cover is a whole mood in itself. The image shows a cartoon version of DatsJustice looking electrifying above a faded city all in a purple hue.  He’s trying to show you how different he really is.

The first full song on We Different is my personal favorite, “Traffic”.  “Traffic” is definitely a song which gives you an extremely mellow and chill smoker’s vibe.  It’s something you can ride to or even do a slight twerk to.  The beat is fast enough for you to rock with but mellow enough for it not to be a party song.  It has been one of my most played tracks. You can catch a short visual he dropped for this song here.

That same vibe can be similarly heard on “Lessons”, another one of my favorites, “Bag” and “Sauce”.  However, when we get to Camera Shy, DatsJustice changes up the flow. He doesn’t give you the mellow bars anymore.  On “Camera Shy” he goes right at the beat and doesn’t stop.  This brings the energy of the first half to its peak.

“Energy Killa” is another song which takes us away from DatsJustice’s traditional sound.  It has a slight alternative flair which works under his voice.  “Floss Enough” is the perfect ending for We Different.  We can here the instrumentality in the music.  The sound is clean, soulful and feels like the fade to black moment of the project. Overall, I would say the EP is solid.  It gives listeners a variety of vibes and something for every mood.  I recommend you grab a drink and just vibe your way through.

Don’t forget to drop a comment and let us know what you think of the EP. You can catch up with DatsJustice on all his socials and stream his music here.

Growing up on the South Side of Chicago I was taught at a young age how to hustle, be independent and resilient. Since a mere child, I have always been one to guide my own destiny. After spending my high schools years at Jones College Prep, a magnet school in downtown Chicago, I went on to receive 8 full ride scholarships to various universities around the country, something I never would have expected. Ultimately, I made a wonderful decision in choosing my college home at the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University. Aside from mastering the art of the 'turn up', college taught me so much more. However, this didn’t just include the ins and outs of Computer Science. College gave me a window to various styles, personalities and looks. This is where my passion for media, radio, art and imagery flourished.
