SOLD OUT Jazmine Sullivan Heaux Tales Tour

When Jazmine Sullivan announced the The Heaux Tales Tour, fans all over the world were in an uproar, myself included. I had last saw Jazmine several years back at The Fillmore in Charlotte, NC where she gave anyone who doubted her vocal talent a virtual smack.

After a brief hiatus following her 2015 album Reality show, Jazmine Sullivan came back with Heaux Tales in 2021 and later dropped the deluxe version, Heaux Tales, Mo Tales.

When Jazmine Sullivan announced the The Heaux Tales Tour, fans all over the world were in an uproar, myself included. I had last saw Jazmine several years back at The Fillmore in Charlotte, NC where she gave anyone who doubted her vocal talent a virtual smack. However, for many fans this excitement was met with disappointment as resellers begin snagging the venue tickets and reselling them for outrageous prices. If you were able to grab one of these tickets, consider yourself lucky! Luckily, I was one of these lucky one.

Though a rainy day in Chicago, fans were already lined up as early as 4:30PM to get into the House of Blues. As I arrived at the venue, you could feel the excitement in the air and even hear Jazmin Sullivan playing from potential concert goers as they circled the nearest parking garage. The wait was finally over!

As I walked into the House of Blues, you could feel the energy. VIPs were lining up to gather their lanyards as they began going into the music hall, the line outside continued to grow and others were making their way to the HOB restaurant for pre-concert drinks at the bar.

Doors opened promptly at 6 with the show set to begin shortly. The lights dimmed and promptly at 7PM Tiana Major9 began her 30 minute set.  If you’re unfamiliar, Tiana Major9 is a 26 year old singer from London who achieved great recognition from her song “Collide”, which appeared on the Queen & Slim soundtrack.

The crowd was rocking with Tiana Major9 as they sang her songs and vibed to the melodies. It was certainly evident from her performance that sis can sing! However, after her set, the anticipation for Jazmine grew stronger.

The 30 minute setup seemed like forever.  However Jazmine appeared on the stage promptly at 8pm as the sound of “Bodies” filled the music hall.

Jazmine, looking beautiful and radiating good vibes, approached the mic and the crowd erupted.  If you are a true Jazmine Sullivan Fan, this was the concert for you. Not only did she come ready to perform new music from Heaux Tales, she brought us classics like “In Love With Another Man”, “Bust Your Windows”, and even “Mascara”. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one that went home hoarse that night.  Even behind my mask, my terrible singing stayed in unison with the concert goers around me.

As expected, Jazmine Sullivan brought the house down!  Experiencing her vocals live is something that every fan should have the privilege of witnessing at least once in their lifetime.  Fans came from all over, driving hours from surrounding states just to see her live.

Jazmine closed the show with a classic track, “Need You Bad”.  As many fans rocked to the music, several  began to shuffle down the crowded stairwell to obtain purses and coats from bag check or to get a jump on the concert traffic, myself included.   Though it pained me to leave before her encore of “Pick Up Your Feelings”, I know this won’t be the last time I see her live!

Growing up on the South Side of Chicago I was taught at a young age how to hustle, be independent and resilient. Since a mere child, I have always been one to guide my own destiny. After spending my high schools years at Jones College Prep, a magnet school in downtown Chicago, I went on to receive 8 full ride scholarships to various universities around the country, something I never would have expected. Ultimately, I made a wonderful decision in choosing my college home at the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University. Aside from mastering the art of the 'turn up', college taught me so much more. However, this didn’t just include the ins and outs of Computer Science. College gave me a window to various styles, personalities and looks. This is where my passion for media, radio, art and imagery flourished.
